Congratulations on walking into a booth and pressing a button. You have fulfilled your “civic duty” and you now have the right to act like a bag of trash for the next four years until you walk into a booth again and vote for some other puppet on a string.
One of the phrases that gets repeated often during these times is, “If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.” First of all, yes you can. Isn’t that what being a free person is all about? The right to willfully abstain and still voice your opinion no matter how slanted?
More importantly though, should the goal really to be able to complain?
The truth is, that even though your vote may have been counted, it really doesn’t matter. You’re picking from two sides of the same corrupted coin while the people who are running the show behind the scenes have names you don’t know and faces you’ll never see.
